2.5: Standing on the corner (howling at the moon.)

Well man was I stressed out today. I was getting the runaround because of this Health Card thing, but thankfully it's all straightened out, and in retrospect, it was kind of a good day: in spite of weather that was increasingly worse as the day wore on, an expensive spoiling of apetite, absence of most of my good friends and friendly acquaintances, and just plain irritability.

Note for later: Lick's is too expensive of a restaurant to ever be considered for dining in the future.

Anyway, I'm somehow feeling good at the end of this miserable day. I wrote a bunch of pages of my pet project, the conveniently-titled screenplay "Work in Progress," which features some severely clever dialogue - at least, as far as I can reckon. I mean, I'd like to think I know when a line I've written is good, or when it's a total do-over.

You know what I think? I think the evolution of PC's has made the whole concept of "Re-Writing" obsolete. No hard copy of this script exists, and I can edit as I go along. I can revise as I please, as I go, and in places where it would not be possible in past times, at my leisure. I think tha told writer's cliche of "Writing is Re-writing" may still stand, but it won't be taken in the same way. I need not write an enitre script and then go back and re-write the whole thing 17 times, as Guthrie insists was the true path. Heresy, perhaps, but I speak from experience. Why bother building on something you don't like and can easily get rid of? Re-writing has been revolutionized and it's time writers worked smarter, and not harder.

That's my soapbox for today.

I'm still happy about waht I've written and will be glad to continue working on it, hopefully tomorrow.

And by the by, by this point all my Sears friends have been off the stage for a while, I reckon, and I do hope they broke their legs, if you know the expression. We'll know the results soon enough.
