VIII: Broadway is dark tonight

Ah, the Goo Goo Dolls.

Y'know, it's funny. They produced so many memorable tunes (for me at least,) such as Broadway, Slide, and of course, Iris, during that teen angsty period, and yet I never downloaded their music, which means that, given my general shunning of Top 40 radio (*including the station that introduced me to them, Mix 99.9,) I haven't heard them in a very long time.

I went out on a jobscouting mission today. I'm looking to apply to yet another menial position in the local customer service sector. I'm not all that enthusiastic, because I know the outcome will likely not be positive. Still, it's these things I've got to do. It's like a shark; if I stop swimming, I'll die.

I just figure that it's much easier for a woman to get hired in these positions. Not to be sexist - although I don't understand how something can be sexist if it is altogether positive toward the group described. I just think it's more common to see women in positions of customer service and sales. They generally have a friendlier, more pleasant, outgoing vibe about them. Not to say they are friendlier, more pleasant or outgoing, but being female, they seem that way. You see a pretty girl at a counter, you wander over and see what she has to say. you see a guy at the same counter, you might be more inclined to stay away. It's upsetting. I need a job.

This depressing realization - which I had today on the way home from said mission - has led me to one fortunate conclusion, and that is a renewed focus on my writing. Not only creating output, but finding avenues through which to publish it. "Paper your walls with rejections," as Guthrie says, and it's about time I got a new wallpaper. "Oscar Lloyd" has been a positive enough enough experience that I ought to feel comfortable diving back into the creative pool.

So I've looked at a few possible avenues, both of which I intend of pusuing in the coming weeks. One is getting "Oscar Lloyd" submitted to places, the other is submitting my first book. Not that it's been completed, but it needn't yet be. I've looked up the appropriate sources for getting published and to whom I ought to submit. I'm not sure how close I am t getting there, but I've taken that step, and I've got an idea how to go further.

Unlikely as it may be that I'll succeed in these endeavours, I refer you to the wallpaper quote. I've got to do this.

I went to see Superman Returns last night. The review will be up on Interneta soon, but I'll just note the experience here, since a sentence won't do it. While I had fun and enjoyed the film (except for the part during which I was in the washroom; note for the future: to go before the movie starts,) and it was IMAX, which means it was not only on the huge effing IMAX screen, but free thanks to Deb, and also partially in 3-D. That last note is kind of a double-edged sword, however, because the movie wasn't directed or shot as 3-D, so the 3-D scenes, while being neat-looking, don't pop as much as you might expect, and anytime something moves to the edge of the frame, it's off-putting and wrong. Sad to say, converting regular movies into 3-D isn't worth it.

That's about it. Damn Xena is still kvetching to me about anything and everything. Sigh... only one more week after today. Or is it tomorrow? I don't know. Still, quite a while.

Ay caramba.

Keep on rockin'
-The Scott

I bet your work will end up as more than wallpaper ;p . I hope you get published; your work is good. You deserve to have something published. Good luck :) !
