#17: You can never leave without leaving a piece of you
An auspicious start to my break, really. I'm sitting here with my laptop all wired up, Eric on the PC and Brandon on his computer in his room. We're quite the trio here.
Everybody Loves Raymond is on. Now, I'm not such a huge fan of Raymond, he's all right if you like that same-old sitcom stuff, but that's not the point. It was an episode where he was sick. It reminded me of times when i was a kid... I'm thinking grade 7, when I'd fake sick by saying I had a headache (it was my go-to symptom because it was nondescript and difficult to disprove,) and Grandma would come over to take care of me. I'm pretty sure she knew I was usually not all that sick, but tolerated me and made sure I stayed out of trouble. Even as I played video games pretty much all day.
Today we finally went out and did the Christmas shopping... it was a breeze, unlike Saturday, and my last stop to make will be Chapters at some point this week. We actually did end up finding what we wanted to get Mom, a very helpful body shop lady was able to show us what was very clearly right in front of our faces the entire time.
Other than that, it was a wonderful, lazy afternoon. My sympathy goes out to those of you who are still in school, and will be for a week or so before I go back. At least you have the comfort of knowing that my schedule is pretty nuts, with my working on the newspaper/ezine/whathaveyou 3 days a week. Well, this is what I signed on for, not going to dwell on it (although for 14 weeks straight starting next month I am going to complain about it freely, as this is my blog.)
I don't get it man. I think I totally bypassed Christmas spirit this year. Now I'm not one to get all "It's A Wonderful Life" to begin with, but I can usually enjoy the holiday season a lot more than I have this year. I think between all the commercialization of the holiday theme, the argument over "christmas vs. holiday" being especially intense this year, and my frustrations over various aspects of the season, I just didn't catch onto that old Christmas feeling. I do love Christmas morning. My heart warms up just thinking about that one, I'll tell ya.
I'm of the opinion that it doesn't really matter what you call it. As the religion evolved from cult to dominant world faith, the holiday of Christmas evolved with it, even though it was somewhat arbitrary in its creation, into the creme de la creme of holidays, lending itself better to commercial exploitation than others. We call it Christmas, a celebration of Jesus' birth which is more likely to have happened in springtime given the biblical account... but you never an trust the Bible anyway, since it's historically more likely that Yeshua ben Nazareth (that's Jesus to you,) was a mason, not a carpenter. And the whole Old Testament probably didn't happen and what is the deal with Revelation? See, this is why I never read the Bible, it's ridiculous. And if I never read the Bible and yet celebrate Christmas, why shouldn't anybody else? After all, at the time people *say* Jesus was born, he would've just celebrated Hanukah anyway.
Mom went to her office Christmas party tonight... obviously getting plastered, phoning at quarter to 7 and having to have her boss let us know where she was. I wasn't even aware she was out until then.
Looking at my playlist... observing the fact that I listen have a lot of songs on there that I just don't want to hear anymore. Thinking of streamlining it. Kinda wish my DL program hadn't flipped out, but it did and I've got no urge to try getting another. Tired of the whole idea of downloading music.
I just spend about 30 minutes building a new playlist consisting of some songs that were already on my playlist and others I had no idea were on there... and now I've run out of things to say, so, talk to you later.
Keep on rockin'
-Scotto
