V: The burdon of existence is a hard one to shoulder
Guh. What a cumbersome night.
You know... I like to write at night. I like to unwind and muster up my creative abilities and let it fly between, say, 8 PM and 1 AM. But then there's TV, oftentimes between 8 and 10, and usually the Daily Show and Colbert at 11-12... and then it gets past midnight and I ain't written shit! By then I'm thinking, "Okay, let's pop off a blog and maybe go to bed." So here we are.
Last friday, I was at the mall hanging out with Amanda J. on her day off, and my grandma saw me. I didn't see her, although she seems to have gotten the belief that I looked straight at her. So I hear this not only from my mom, but when my aunt called this morning to ask if I had my mom's work number, she said, "I heard from [grandma] that she saw you at the mall and you didn't say hi!" It's weird how this inner-family chatter goes around. I'm actually going to have to have a conversation with my grandmother to explain that I didn't see her, and turn it around and go, "Why didn't you say hi to me?"
Grandparents hold a unique place in families. They get things re-arranged for them, and perhaps rightly so, as they are directly or indirectly responsible for most of a family's existence. Sometimes this is to the benefit of those involved. My grandad (Dad's dad, whereas the previous grandparent was mom's mom,) is going to be in Australia from late September through mid-October, and thus won't be around for Thanksgiving. Traditionally on Thanksgiving, dad takes us up to North Bay to see him, and uncle Alan's family. Because of this sequence of circumstances, Dad suggested (that is to say, decided,) we go up for Grandad's birthday in late September and skip thanksgiving. I was glad to hear this, because thanksgiving is a great time to stick around town when you are in University (who knows this year, but for the past two absolutely,) and it also means less time we have to spend in North Bay, which although populated by very nice people, is a dreary town to be in, especially in chilly mid-fall weather.
I almost started a fire today. I had the baking sheet (with stale last night's fries) on the stove and turned on the burner by mistake. I didn't realize until the smoke started to billow. On the plus side, strangely enough, the heat seems to have seared off or at least cracked some of the char caked onto that sheet.
I'm beset upon by minutiae. Dad would be upset/disappointed to learn that I can't find my birth certificate. There's other shit that needs to be found. Mom wants to replace our table... the table, which we don't eat at but serves as a piling ground for a load of junk, came with the basement, is filthy and plastic... not an item of furniture I would personally pick but hey, it was free.
I think I need to get Guitar Hero.
My brother puts away dishes in a way that annoys the piss outta me.
So much minor shit. All of it, nonsense, humbug, bullshit. I need to just write something that is real. Or at least go to bed.
Aug. Not a classic.
Keep on rockin'
