M: Let's make this precious

I shouldn't be doing this... I should be coercing my research into a presentation. The weird thing about presentations in a Research class is that the presentation is about the research, not jsut the info. I have to document how I found all the information i'm using. And I may, just may, do my first-ever Powerpoint presentation (seriously, the only one I've ever done was with Ryan Goad in grade 12 English.)

Another dreary mid-autumn's day. Splotches of midnight rain soaked into asphalt, a chilled wind blowing fallen leaves. It's a funny thing about autumn. It's the only time of the year people celebrate entropy and death. That's what the leaves changing colour is, isn't it? Them dying? And everybody says "gee, that's so beautiful." It's the ultimate sacrifice... you sadistic voyeurs.

So I'm almost done writing this story, "The Insomniac," for an anthology I'm planning. There's really no reason for me to be doing this, practically speaking. It distracts from my schoolwork and won't amount to much in the end. And yet, I enjoy it, and it keeps me in touch with my creative side. While writing it, I sort of doubled back into the middle and took it into a different direction, because I felt it was meandering off toward the end. It was getting boringly descriptive, and I felt it needed character interaction, a little emotional depth. (That is, some emotion other than isolation: there's plenty of that.)

Eric went out and bought the Newsroom on DVD. It's a rather obscure CBC show that aired two seasons, one in 1996, one it 2004, inexplicably. But you know what? It's actually hilarious. "The entire muffin industry in this country is a joke." "Get me a holocaust... but with OJ."

Was thinking about Pinky and the Brain earlier, after lunch. Excellent show that was.

Well, I'd best give this powerpoint thing a shot. Keep on rockin'
